Click the gear icon (Help & Settings) in the top-right corner of the OneDrive window. A dropdown menu appears with account options and sync controls.
Why does OneDrive upload files automatically?
Windows is set by default to back up your Desktop, Documents, and Pictures folders to Microsoft cloud servers, which can consume internet bandwidth and reach the free 5 GB limit quickly.

Hover over Pause syncing and choose a duration: 2 hours, 8 hours, or 24 hours. The cloud icon changes to show a small pause symbol, and all file uploads halt immediately.
