The steps

  1. 1

Press WinI on your keyboard to open Windows Settings. The Settings window opens.

    Why check camera permissions?

Checking permissions lets you make sure only trusted apps (like Zoom, Teams, or your browser) can access your webcam and microphone.

  2. 2

Click Privacy & security in the left navigation menu, then scroll down and click Camera (or Microphone). The Camera permissions page opens, showing a master switch and a list of all apps with access.

Windows Privacy settings page showing the list of apps with toggles for camera access.
  3. 3

Scroll through the list of installed apps and toggle the switch to Off next to any app you do not want using your hardware. The switch turns grey, immediately blocking that app from ever turning on your camera.

  4. It looks different on my screen

In Windows 10, go to Settings > Privacy > Camera or Microphone in the left sidebar.
