The steps

  1. 1

Turn on your Bluetooth headphones, mouse, or speaker and put them in pairing mode. A small light on your device begins blinking rapidly, indicating it is looking for a connection.

    What is pairing mode?

Devices only broadcast their presence when in pairing mode so strangers cannot accidentally connect to your headphones. Usually you hold the power button down for 5 seconds to start it.

  2. 2

Click the Start button and click Settings (the gear icon). The Settings window opens.

  3. 3

Click Bluetooth & devices in the left menu, then click Add device. A black window titled Add a device appears on top.

The Bluetooth & devices Settings page with the Add device button highlighted.
  4. 4

Click Bluetooth at the top of the list. Your computer searches for nearby devices and lists their names.

The Add a device modal showing Bluetooth selected and scanning for devices.
  5. 5

Click the name of your device in the list. The window displays Your device is ready to go! with a Done button.

  6. It looks different on my screen

If your device never appears in the list, turn off Bluetooth on your phone or tablet nearby so the headphones do not automatically connect to that device instead.
