Why is there no sound coming from my computer?

The steps

   Look at the speaker icon in the bottom-right corner of your taskbar (next to the clock). If there is an X mark next to the speaker, your volume is currently muted.

   Why does sound suddenly stop?

   Sound usually stops because the output device got switched to a disconnected monitor, or because the volume was muted with a keyboard shortcut.

   Click the speaker icon to open the volume bar. The volume slider appears with the current volume level number.

   Drag the volume slider to the right (around 50) to make sure it is loud enough. You hear a brief chime confirming the speakers are producing sound.

   If you still hear nothing, click the sound output arrow > next to the volume slider. A list of available audio devices (like Speakers or Headphones) appears.

   Click on your built-in Speakers or headphones from the list. Windows switches your audio immediately to the selected device and sound plays.

If you only have no sound inside a web browser (like YouTube), check whether the individual browser tab has a small speaker icon indicating that specific tab is muted.
