The steps

  1. 1

Plug your HDMI, DisplayPort, or USB-C cable securely into your computer and the second monitor or TV. The second screen powers on or detects a signal, and your computer makes a brief chime sound.

  2. 2

Hold the Windows key and press the letter P. A Project sidebar slides out from the right side of your screen showing four display options.

What does Win + P do?

The letter P stands for Project. It is the direct Windows shortcut to switch how multiple screens behave.

  3. 3

Click Duplicate to show the exact same picture on both screens, or click Extend to get extra workspace. Your displays flicker for a brief second and adjust to your selected layout.

  4. It looks different on my screen

If the second monitor says "No Signal", check that the monitor is set to the correct input source (such as HDMI 1 or HDMI 2) using its physical power or menu buttons.
