The steps
- 1
Click on the first window you want to position (such as your browser or document). The window becomes active and focused on your screen.
Why snap windows?
Splitting your screen lets you read instructions or watch a tutorial on one side while typing notes or working in another program on the other side.
- 2
Hold the Win key and press the Left or Right arrow key. The window instantly snaps to fill exactly one half of your display, while thumbnails of your other open apps appear on the empty half.

- 3
Click the thumbnail of the second app you want on the other side. The second app smoothly expands to fill the remaining half of your screen, creating a perfectly balanced split-screen view.
It looks different on my screen
In Windows 11, you can also hover your mouse over the maximize square button in the top-right corner of any window to see visual Snap Layout grid options.
