The steps

   Connect your phone to your computer using its USB charging cable, then unlock your phone's screen. Your phone starts charging, and a prompt may appear on your phone asking how to use the USB connection.

   Why do I need to unlock the phone first?

   Phones stay locked for security so nobody can access your personal photos without your permission. Unlocking the screen tells the phone that you trust this computer.

   On your phone screen, tap File transfer (or Trust this computer on iPhone). Your computer plays a soft chime indicating the device is connected.

On your computer, open File Explorer (the yellow folder icon on your taskbar), and click your phone's name in the left sidebar under This PC.Your phone's storage folders open in the main window.

   Double-click the DCIM folder, open the Camera folder, select the photos you want, and drag them into your computer's Pictures folder. A progress bar appears briefly as your photos copy over to your computer.

If your phone does not show up in File Explorer at all, your cable might be a charge-only cable. Try plugging into a different USB port on your computer or using the cable that came in your phone's original box.

If you use an iPhone and don't see folders, open the built-in Windows Photos app, click Import at the top right, and select From a connected device.
