How do I rename multiple files at once without typing each name?

The steps

1. 1

   Open the folder holding the files you want to rename, and select all of them by dragging your mouse or pressing Ctrl+A. All selected files highlight in blue.

   Why batch rename?

   When organizing photos or scanned documents with long random camera names, batch renaming gives every file a clean unified name and numbers them automatically.

   Press the F2 key on your keyboard (or right-click the first highlighted file and click the rename icon). The filename of the first file becomes an editable text box while all other files remain selected.

   Type your desired name (for example, Trip) and press Enter. Windows immediately renames all selected files in order: Trip (1), Trip (2), Trip (3), and so on.

On some laptops where function keys double as brightness/volume keys, you may need to press Fn+F2 instead of just F2.
