The steps

   End the phone call immediately without arguing or explaining. The phone line disconnects. The caller cannot do anything to your computer over a standard telephone call alone.

   How do scammers get your phone number?

   Scammers use automated dialers that call thousands of random numbers every hour reciting the same script. They do not know who you are and have no connection to your computer.

   If the caller asked you to type something into your computer or visit a website, close all browser windows and do not download any tools. Your desktop is clear and no unverified remote access sessions are initiated.

   If you already gave them remote access before reading this, immediately turn off your Wi-Fi or unplug your internet network cable. Severing your internet connection immediately locks the caller out of your machine, stopping any file transfers or remote control.

If you paid them any money or gave credit card details during the call, immediately call your bank using the official number printed on the back of your card to freeze transactions and dispute charges.
