The steps

  1. 1

Hold both Ctrl and Alt together on your keyboard, and press the Up Arrow key once. If your graphics hardware supports quick rotation, the display snaps back to standard horizontal landscape view instantly.

Why did my screen flip in the first place?

Keyboards have built-in rotation shortcuts designed for programmers and financial analysts who turn their physical monitors vertically to read long documents. Accidental key presses can unintentionally trigger this feature.

  2. 2

If the shortcut did not rotate your screen, right-click on an empty part of your desktop and click Display settings. The Display settings window opens.

  3. 3
Scroll down to Display orientation, click the dropdown menu, and select Landscape. The screen returns right-side up, and a prompt asks if you want to keep these display settings.
Windows 11 Display orientation dropdown set to Landscape.
  4. 4

Click Keep changes to confirm. Your screen is permanently restored to its normal orientation.

  5. It looks different on my screen

If you use a 2-in-1 touchscreen laptop or tablet, the screen might have rotated because physical auto-rotation is on. Press WinA and click Rotation lock to prevent accidental flips when moving your device.
