The steps
- 1
Hold the Windows key and the Shift key, then press S. Your screen dims slightly and a small toolbar appears at the top center of your display.

What does pressing three keys together do?
Holding modifier keys like Windows and Shift while tapping a letter tells the computer to trigger a special built-in shortcut rather than typing the letter S.
- 2
Click and drag a box across the exact area you want to capture, then release your mouse button. The screen brightness returns to normal, and a notification banner pops up in the bottom-right corner saying the screenshot was copied to your clipboard.

- 3
Open the app where you want to send or paste the picture (such as WhatsApp, Word, or an email). Your chosen application window is open and ready for typing.
- 4
Press CtrlV or right-click and choose Paste. Your captured image appears immediately inside your message or document.
It looks different on my screen
If the screen does not dim when pressing WinShiftS, make sure your keyboard does not have an active Fn Lock key preventing function combinations, or search for Snipping Tool in the Start menu.
