The steps

  1. 1

Open Windows Settings by pressing WinI. The Settings window opens on your screen.

  2. 2

In the left sidebar, click Network & internet, then click Mobile hotspot. The Mobile hotspot settings page appears showing your network properties and a toggle switch.

What does Mobile Hotspot actually do?

It turns your computer's built-in Wi-Fi adapter into a miniature wireless router, broadcasting a secure Wi-Fi signal using the computer's existing internet connection.

  3. 3

Click Edit under Properties to set your preferred network name and Wi-Fi password (at least 8 characters), then click Save. Your customized Wi-Fi name and password are saved.

  4. 4

Turn the toggle at the top of the page to On. The toggle turns blue and displays the status as sharing your internet connection.

  5. 5

On your phone or tablet, open your Wi-Fi settings, select your computer's network name, and enter the password. Your phone connects successfully and browses the internet through your PC.

  6. It looks different on my screen

If the toggle says Mobile hotspot is not available, make sure your computer has Wi-Fi turned on and is actively connected to the internet via Ethernet cable or a primary Wi-Fi network.
